Watch Bernie Sanders's Delegate Brother Larry Sanders Emotionally Cast His Floor Vote For Bernie

Larry Sanders is a Green Party politician in the UK, and a delegate with the Democrats Abroad delegation here at the DNC in Philadelphia. He’s also Bernie Sanders’s little brother. A few minutes ago, during the roll call of states, the delegation allowed him to personally deliver his vote to his older brother, which he did, after brief, emotional remarks about their parents, and how immensely proud they’d be. It was a nice moment.

PGA Championship Odds: Dustin Johnson Leads Field In Search Of Second Major

Dustin Johnson will be looking to maintain the torrid pace that has earned him top-five finishes in five of his past six tournaments, including his first career major win at last month’s  U.S. Open, when he tees off Thursday at the 2016 PGA Championship as a +800 betting favorite at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

The 32-year-old American has been a force on the tour in 2016, following up his U.S. Open win with a victory at the Bridgestone Invitational before finishing tied for second at last week’s Canadian Open. That maintained his lead atop the FedExCup standings heading into this weekend’s 98th PGA Championship at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey.

Johnson is closely trailed on the PGA Championship betting lines by the tournament’s two most recent winners, Jason Day and Rory McIlroy, who sit deadlocked at +900 odds.

Day claimed his first career major title at last year’s PGA Championship, kicking off the current trend of first-time majors winners with Danny Willett, Johnson, and Henrik Stenson following up with victories at each of this year’s major tournaments.

While Day has been somewhat of a disappointment in this year’s major tournaments he has three wins to his credit this season, maintaining his perch atop the Official World Golf Ranking and closely trailing Johnson in second in the FedExCup standings.

McIlroy sits at No. 4 on the rankings and will be gunning for his third career PGA Championship title after claiming victory in both 2012 and 2014.

However, the 27-year-old from Northern Ireland has produced mixed results at major tournaments since winning twice in 2014. McIlroy has recorded four Top-10 finishes since then but missed the cut at this year’s US Open, and finished 17th at last year’s PGA Championship after sitting out the Open Championship due to injury.

Fresh off his victory in his epic duel with Phil Mickelson at this month’s Open Championship, Stenson will be aiming for a second straight major victory at +1400 odds at the sportsbooks.

Jordan Spieth joins Stenson at +1400 but has yet to fully rebound from a devastating meltdown in the final round at this year’s Masters, finishing in a disappointing tie for 37th at the U.S. Open and then ending up in 30th place at the Open Championship.

Mickelson follows at +1800 odds, ahead of Sergio Garcia at +2500, while 2010 PGA Championship winner Martin Kaymer trails at +5000, and 2013 champion Jason Dufner is pegged at a distant +8000 on the golf betting odds at the sportsbooks for this week.

What’s Wrong With David Price? Pedro Martinez Offers Take On Red Sox Ace

BOSTON — David Price has heard criticism and advice from all sides during his underwhelming 2016 season, and for the most part, it’s best to block out the noise.

But the Red Sox ace might want listen to latest person to weigh in on his struggles.

That would be Pedro Martinez, the Baseball Hall of Famer-turned-MLB Network analyst who stopped by the Red Sox’s clubhouse before their game against the Detroit Tigers.

Martinez knows a thing or two about being the ace of Boston’s staff, and he was asked to share what advice he’d give Price on regaining his Cy Young form. For Pedro, it comes down to one thing — confidence.

“I think he has to trust what he can do,” Martinez said. “… I don’t see anything wrong — his velocity is there, he can last eight, nine innings easily. He’s in great shape. He looks good overall, except some games just don’t go his way, and sometimes it doesn’t look like everything clicks for him. But I believe he just has to trust what he is, the presence he has, and his knowledge.

“Sometimes, it’s up to you to say, ‘Hey, I know this. I know the situation. So, I’m going to go and just approach it.’ And that’s probably what he needs to do, just trust what he is, and what he knows, and the stuff he has.”

Price certainly has the All-Star pedigree, and while his 4.51 ERA through 21 starts this season is disappointing to say the least, Martinez thinks the left-hander can turn things around.

“I believe he’s capable of it,” Martinez said. “He has given you guys a lot of signs that he’s the ace we all expect, and I think, to be honest, I think he’s going to be all right. I do. I think it’s just a matter of making the right adjustments and trying to make them as quick as possible.”

In a fitting coincidence, Price strolled through the Red Sox’s clubhouse just as Martinez was talking about him. Pedro didn’t notice, but Price certainly did, pausing for a moment to listen after hearing his name before continuing on his way.

Martinez said he hasn’t talked to Price directly but certainly is open to helping him out. Yet for all the advice the Red Sox legend likely can offer, Martinez insisted Price’s road to success starts from within.

“He knows how I feel,” Martinez said. “He knows that I want to help him and I want to help everybody else. But like I said, the biggest adjustment is the adjustment that David Price makes. It’s not really what Pedro says or the way Pedro used to go about it. David Price is David Price, and Pedro Martinez is a different person.”

Anquan Boldin Reportedly Signs With Detroit Lions For One-Year Deal

Anquan Boldin has finally found a new home.

The Detroit Lions have reportedly signed the veteran wide receiver to a one-year deal, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The signing fills a void at wide receiver for the Lions, who saw star wideout Calvin Johnson retire during the offseason. The Lions added Marvin Jones at the start of free agency, but still faced depth issues leading them to take a chance on Boldin.

Boldin had a productive year on a dismal San Francisco 49ers team in 2015. He had 69 receptions, 789 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

The 35-year-old will also reunite with Lions head coach Jim Caldwell from his days with the Baltimore Ravens. Caldwell was the offensive coordinator on the Ravens when they won Super Bowl XLVII.

California's Rowdy Bernie Crowd Might Get Loud Again Tonight

Bernie-supporting delegates were out in full force during the Democratic National Convention speeches last night. Over the telecast, it was easy to hear boos and chants of “we can’t trust her” during pro-Hillary speeches. I wasn’t on the floor, but I’d heard that a small crowd of California delegates were delivering the loudest jeers. Bernie was even booed by a crowd of his own California supporters when he urged them to back Hillary. This afternoon, a few delegates from the state said they might deliver a similar protest tonight.

Amar’e Stoudemire Announces Retirement After Signing With Knicks

Amar’e Stoudemire is calling it quits.

Stoudemire announced Tuesday he’s retiring from the NBA after a 14-year career that included six All-Star selections. The 33-year-old signed a contract with the New York Knicks to retire as a member of the organization.

Stoudemire’s best days came with the Phoenix Suns, who drafted the big man out of high school with the No. 9 overall selection in 2002. He was traded to the Knicks prior to the 2010-11 season and spent parts of five seasons in the Big Apple before making stops with the Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat.

Stoudemire averaged 18.9 points and 7.8 rebounds in 31 minutes per game over 846 career regular-season contests. He was named to the All-NBA Second Team four times and the All-NBA First Team once.

Rio de Janeiro Drug Dealers Shamelessly Use Olympic Logo To Sell Product

Like any other business in Rio de Janeiro, the drug trade is trying to capitalize on the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Brazilian newspaper O Globo reported Monday that Rio de Janeiro police seized a stash of 93 cocaine bags, of which some bore packaging that included the iconic Olympics rings, according to Sport Illustrated’s Dan Gartland.

It’s nice of the drug dealers to watch out for the kids, but what about the interests of the International Olympic Committee? Sponsors pay big money to associate themselves with the IOC and the Olympic Games. Surely, they’re not paying for branded drugs.

MLB Trade Deadline: Braves, Other Sellers Still Have A Lot To Offer

There haven’t been any huge splashes ahead of Major League Baseball’s non-waiver trade deadline, but it’s not for a lack of talent.

Sellers like the Atlanta Braves and Oakland Athletics still have plenty to offer before Aug. 1, and the wheels likely will start turning very soon. Top starting pitchers like the Braves’ Julio Teheran and the A’s Sonny Gray won’t come cheap, though, so there could be some blockbusters on the horizon if teams are willing to dish out what it takes.

But that’s not all that’s on the table. So without further ado, here are the best pieces from a sampling of MLB’s sellers.

Steven Wright On Mound For Red Sox Vs. Tigers, Hoping To Stay Hot In July

BOSTON — The Red Sox have hit a bit of a skid lately, but Steven Wright is a prime candidate to turn their fortunes around.

The right-handed knuckleballer will get the start Tuesday for Boston’s contest against the Detroit Tigers at Fenway Park. And while the Sox have lost three of their last four, Wright has yet to lose in July, posting a perfect 4-0 record in four starts with 23 strikeouts in 25 innings pitched.

Ryan Hanigan will start behind the plate to catch Wright and bat eighth. The rest of Boston’s lineup remains unchanged from Monday night’s 4-2 loss to Detroit, in which the team left 11 men on base and went just 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

The Tigers will counter with right-hander Mike Pelfrey, who is 3-9 on the season but allowed just one run in his last outing to pick up the win against the Chicago White Sox.

Here are the full lineups for Tuesday’s game.

RED SOX (55-42)
Mookie Betts, RF
Dustin Pedroia, 2B
Xander Bogaerts, SS
David Ortiz, DH
Hanley Ramirez, 1B
Jackie Bradley Jr., CF
Travis Shaw, 3B
Ryan Hanigan, C
Brock Holt, LF

Steven Wright, RHP (12-5, 2.67 ERA)

TIGERS (52-48)

Miguel Cabrera, 1B
Victor Martinez, DH
Nick Castellanos, 3B

NFL Rumors: Redskins Discussed Signing Greg Hardy; Josh Norman Approves

Injuries, suspensions and underperformance can force teams to make moves they otherwise wouldn’t.

ESPN’s Ed Werder reported in May there was virtually no interest in Greg Hardy, who is coming off a disappointing season with the Dallas Cowboys in which the beleaguered defensive end remained a headache. Things might be changing, though, as Werder reported Tuesday that the Washington Redskins have had internal discussions about whether to sign Hardy.

The Redskins just lost outside linebacker Junior Galette for the season after he tore his right Achilles tendon during football drills Sunday. Galette also missed the entire 2015 season with a torn left Achilles, but he was supposed to be ready for the start of training camp and losing him reportedly is forcing Washington to consider other veteran options, including Hardy.

Hardy could have some support within the Redskins organization, too, as Washington cornerback Josh Norman would endorse signing the 2013 Pro Bowl selection based on his experience with him on the field and in the locker room, sources told Werder. Norman and Hardy played together with the Carolina Panthers from 2012 through 2014.

Hardy, who allegedly assaulted his girlfriend in 2014, missed almost all of that season while on the commissioner’s exempt list as his domestic violence case played out. He then signed with the Cowboys and was suspended four games (reduced from 10) last season before making an underwhelming return to the gridiron.

Hardy, who turns 28 this week, recorded 26 sacks with the Panthers between the 2012 and 2013 seasons. He totaled just six sacks in 12 games with the Cowboys last season.

Jackie Bradley Jr. Gets Revenge On Hanley Ramirez With Shirtless Shadowboxing

Two months later, JBJ finally got his revenge.

As you might recall, Hanley Ramirez hijacked Jackie Bradley Jr.’s interview with MLB Network after Bradley won American League Player of the Week honors in May. The Boston Red Sox first baseman stole the show with a shirtless workout that Bradley couldn’t help but laugh about.

Well, with Ramirez winning last week’s America League Player of the Week award, Bradley figured he’d return the favor. In sticking with tradition, Bradley ditched his threads for a shirtless workout that involved shadowboxing right next to Ramirez as he conducted an interview with MLB Network.

Kimbo Slice’s Son To Make MMA Debut Not Long After Dad’s Shocking Death

Kimbo Slice’s son will look to carry the torch.

Kevin Ferguson Jr., the oldest son of Slice, is scheduled to make his professional mixed martial arts debut at Bellator 160 on Aug. 26, according to The Associated Press.

This news comes just months after Slice, a mixed martial artist who first gained notoriety through a series of Internet fight videos in the early 2000s, died of heart failure at age 42.

“I was always around the fight business and everything, so I saw it and I understood what was going on,” Ferguson told The Associated Press. “I just knew without a doubt that one day, this was what I wanted to do.”

Slice, whose real name was Kevin Ferguson, was under contract with Bellator at the time of his death. His last fight came against Dada 5000 back in February, as he died June 6 after collapsing at his home.

Ferguson Jr., who has two younger brothers and three younger sisters, has been training MMA for less than two years but won his first amateur fight in March. His opponent for next month’s pro debut is expected to be selected this week.

Gonzalo Higuain Transfer: Why Juventus Paid Ransom For Argentina, Napoli Striker

Gonzalo Higuain has played the bulk of his career in the shadow of more illustrious teammates at club and international levels, but the business of soccer has pushed him further into the limelight.

Higuain on Tuesday completed a £75.3 million (€90 million/$99 million) transfer from Napoli to Juventus, the Italian clubs announced on Twitter. Juventus will pay the mammoth fee, which equals Higuain’s release clause, in two installments over the next year.

The transfer sets a record for highest fee paid between two teams in the same domestic league, surpassing Fernando Torres’ £50 million move from Liverpool to Chelsea in 2011. The transfer fee also makes Higuain the third most-expensive player in history, trailing just Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale. Higuain also is third all time in accumulated transfer fees.

The Argentinian striker already has enjoyed three successful seasons in Italian soccer, and his 2015-16 campaign will live long in the memories of Serie A (Italian first division) fans everywhere.

By signing Higuain, Juventus, Serie A’s champion in each of the last five seasons, has improved its strike force, following Alvaro Morata’s return to Real Madrid earlier this month and Carlos Tevez’s return to Boca Juniors
a year ago. More importantly, Juventus has weakened Napoli, the team that finished second last season, and strengthened its grip on domestic supremacy.

Higuain should enjoy his time in the spotlight now, because Juventus might sell Paul Pogba to Manchester United or Real Madrid. Pogba undoubtedly command a larger fee than Higuain, on whom Juventus is counting to soften the blow of the French midfielder’s eventual exit.

Laser Treatment: Powerful Benefits for Skin and More

laser_treatments_ARICAN

Laser is an acronym for “Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation.” The invention was first used in industry during the 1960s. Over the next 20 years the technology was refined for a variety of medical purposes.

Since the 1980s, there have been major advances in medical laser technology. Today, a doctor may refer you for laser treatment to alleviate a range of problems, from skin disorders and blood vessel abnormalities to eye surgery. Lasers also have dermatological and cosmetic applications, including depilation (hair removal), stretchmark reduction, and tattoo removal. Types of laser treatment include low-level laser therapy (LLLT), laser acupuncture and high-power laser therapy (HPLT).

How Laser Treatment Works

There are many types of laser, all capable of emitting concentrated beams of single wavelength light. Lasers enable precision treatments on a target tissue, with minimal impact on surrounding tissue. This is achieved by adjusting the frequency, wavelength, intensity, pulse duration and direction of the laser beams.

Low-Level Laser Therapy

LLLT is increasingly being used in physical therapy and chiropractic and sports medicine, as well as in mainstream medicine. It does not induce heating in tissue like surgical or aesthetic lasers, rather, it works by using low-level lasers—or light-emitting diodes—to alter cellular function. Damaged cells respond better than healthy cells to photochemical reactions, and brief treatments with low-level light are thought to induce a complex chain of physiological reactions that enhance wound healing and tissue regeneration.

LLLT can be used to treat jaw pain, reducing the pain and inflammation, as well as increasing the range of motion to the neck and making it easier to open the jaw wide. High-power laser therapy (HPLT) may also be recommended to treat jaw pain.

Tests suggest LLLT provides short-term pain relief for sufferers of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, neck pain and possibly chronic joint disorders. Studies have shown its beneficial use in tooth replantation.

Laser Acupuncture
Are you scared of needles but would like to try acupuncture? This could be the answer. As the concentration of light is highest just under the skin, low-level laser beams are used to stimulate acupuncture points. This remedy has been used for soft tissue injuries, pain, wound and bone repair, lymphatic and circulatory disorders. It has also been used to treat addiction, stress and a variety of skin conditions. Laser acupuncture is often used to treat children as it is painless, treatment times tend to be short and it is more acceptable to children than needle acupuncture.

High-Power Laser Therapy
HPLT works through the directed application of heat or “selective photothermolysis.” Technicians adjust the frequency of light (photo) to produce heat (thermo) in the area targeted for destruction (lysis). Varicose veins can be treated using this type of laser surgery and a doctor might recommend HPLT, under local anesthetic, to burn off stubborn warts.

Having a Laser Treatment

Laser treatments are carried out at clinics and in some instances may be done under local anesthetic. Many of the treatments are noninvasive and offer an alternative to taking pharmaceutical drugs.

As a laser cannot penetrate clothing it must be applied directly to the skin; patients say they experience a warm sensation to the skin that is not painful. Most sessions last for just five to 10 minutes, although treatment for varicose veins may take one or two hours. You may need a series of treatments, depending on your condition.

Safety First
LLLT is extremely safe, although it is advised not to stare directly at the laser and to use safety glasses. There are some slight risks associated with laser surgery similar to other forms of surgery such as bleeding, infection and scarring. Tell the technician if you are pregnant and mention any medical condition you have and other treatments or medicines you are taking. Laser treatment should be postponed or avoided during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.

Cowboys’ Randy Gregory Enters Drug Rehab, Faces Longer Suspension

The Dallas Cowboys already were preparing to be without defensive end Randy Gregory for the first four weeks of the upcoming season. It now appears Gregory could be out a lot longer than that.

Gregory, who had been suspended four games in February for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy, now faces a ban of up to 10 games after an additional violation, according to multiple reports.

The Cowboys’ official website reported Tuesday that Gregory had entered drug rehab. Dallas head coach Jason Garrett declined comment on the matter, per the team, and Gregory’s status for training camp remains uncertain.

Projected as a first-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Gregory fell to 60th overall after failing a drug test at the NFL Scouting Combine. The Nebraska product dealt with high ankle sprain early in his rookie season but went on to appear in 12 games for the Cowboys, totaling 11 tackles.

Gregory is one of three Cowboys defensive players who will miss the start of this season because of violations of the league’s substance abuse policy. Defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence and linebacker Rolando McClain were suspended four and 10 games, respectively.

Jimmy Garoppolo’s College Coach Compares Patriots QB To Dan Marino

The last head coach to start Jimmy Garoppolo in a regular-season game has high hopes for the New England Patriots quarterback this season.

Dino Babers, who coached Garoppolo during his junior and senior seasons at Eastern Illinois, raved about the 24-year-old’s accuracy and quick release Tuesday during an interview with ESPN Radio’s “Mike & Mike.”

“You could see it after five passes. Jimmy Garoppolo was the William Tell, to me, of college football,” Babers said, as transcribed by CSNNE.com. “I’ve never seen a quarterback that could hit exactly what he was throwing at. And I’m not talking about putting it on a guy’s body. You put your hand out there, and he’s sticking the ball right in the middle of your palm.

“You take that accuracy and you put it with someone that has the second-fastest release I’ve ever seen — the only release I’ve ever seen faster was Dan Marino’s … second-fastest release I’ve ever seen — and you’ve got an outstanding quarterback.”

Now, Babers obviously is more than a little bit biased here, but he did watch Garoppolo tear through FCS defenses during the QB’s final two collegiate seasons. Garoppolo was especially productive as a senior in 2013, throwing for 5,050 yards with 53 touchdowns en route to earning the Walter Payton Award (the FCS version of the Heisman Trophy).

After playing only in garbage time during his first two NFL seasons, Garoppolo is expected to begin this season as New England’s No. 1 quarterback while usual starter Tom Brady serves his four-game Deflategate suspension.

“Don’t get me wrong, Tom Brady is the best of all the best,” said Babers, who now coaches at Syracuse. “And I’m not saying he’s going to take Tom’s job. I’m just telling you, this young man is exceptional. If Bill Belichick put a second-round draft pick on him, he knows what he’s doing.”

Garoppolo, Brady and rookie quarterback Jacoby Brissett all practiced Monday, two days before the Patriots’ veterans were scheduled to report to Gillette Stadium for training camp.

Lemon Balm Uses: A Calming Herb to Soothe Anxiety

lemon_balm_Heike-Rau

This perennial herb from the mint family derived its official name from the Greek word for “bee,” its tiny white flowers attracting multitudes of the honey-makers. The plant exudes a strong, lemony scent when the leaves are crushed and it produces a relatively expensive essential oil that is valued in aromatherapy for its uplifting and calming qualities.

Lemon balm tea has been used since the Middle Ages to reduce stress and anxiety, and improve sleep. Steeped in wine, it was used to lift spirits, heal wounds and treat insect bites.

How Lemon Balm Works

Small laboratory trials suggest that lemon balm contains chemicals that may have antiviral, antioxidant, and calmative properties. The leaves of the plant contain terpenes—which play some role in its perceived calming effect—and tannins, which may be responsible for its antiviral properties.

How to Use Lemon Balm

Lemon balm comes in many forms. It can be bought as a dried leaf, as a tea, in capsules, extracts, tinctures and oils, and as an ingredient in creams and lotions. The herb can also be easily grown.

Fresh cuttings of lemon balm, steeped in boiling water for a couple of hours and then chilled, can be drunk as a tea to help calm shredded nerves. Alternatively, to make lemon balm tea, add 2 cups of boiling water to about 1 oz. of dried lemon balm leaves and infuse for up to 10 minutes.

Lemon balm is often used along with other herbs, such as German chamomile, fennel and peppermint, to ease an upset stomach and digestive problems such as nausea, bloating, flatulence and infant colic. Tests suggest that taking an extract of lemon balm orally for four months could reduce agitation and improve the symptoms associated with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease.

Lemon balm may also be helpful in treating herpes. In one study, when a lip salve containing 1 percent lemon balm was applied four times a day to cold sores, healing time was reduced and it might also have helped to prevent the infection from spreading. Another study found that applying a highly concentrated extract of lemon balm cream to oral and genital herpes hastened healing.

When the oil is used in aromatherapy, it is said to lift the mood and relax the body. Mixed with valerian in a tea or capsule, some studies suggest it is an ally against insomnia.

When using lemon balm extract, capsules or any other type of product, follow label instructions or take as professionally prescribed.

Safety First
Lemon balm essential oil should not be taken internally. Fresh or dried lemon balm is safe when consumed in food and has been safely used in research for up to four months. When taken as an extract or capsule, it can cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dizziness and wheezing.

Lemon balm has not been widely tested during pregnancy or breastfeeding so it is best avoided or used only under medical supervision during these periods.

Where to Find Lemon Balm

Lemon balm products are available in health food stores, some supermarkets, or from a qualified herbalist.
