Devin Hester’s time in Atlanta is over, but he hopes his carer isn’t done.
The Falcons on Tuesday released the veteran wide receiver and kick returner after he spent two seasons with the club.
Hester turns 34 in November, but NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported that Hester still has interest in playing.
If Hester is to land another job, he’ll have to prove he can stay healthy. He appeared in just five games last season with the Falcons.
When he was on the field, Hester wasn’t the game-changing returner he’s been known as throughout his career. His 4.3 yards per punt return were by far the least of his career — a far cry from the 13.3 yards he averaged in 2014 — although his kick return average was right around his career average. Hester couldn’t find the end zone, either, just the fourth time in 10 seasons that’s happened.
He literally was a non-factor in the passing game, too, going catchless for just the second time in his career. That’s a far cry from 2014 when he actually played a big role in the Atlanta offense, with 38 catches for 504 yards and two touchdowns. Hester was named to his fourth Pro Bowl roster in 2014.
