Ryan Hanigan Returns, Catching Steven Wright In Red Sox-Rangers Finale

BOSTON — Ryan Hanigan will return to his spot behind a big-league dish Wednesday for the first time in over a month.

The Red Sox catcher, who was activated off the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, will bat ninth and start behind the plate for Boston’s series finale against the Texas Rangers at Fenway Park. It’s Hanigan’s first game since June 4, when he exited a win over the Toronto Blue Jays with a strained neck.

Hanigan will do the catching for knuckleballer Steven Wright, who was named to his first career All-Star Game on Tuesday and will join five other Red Sox in San Diego on July 12.

Wednesday will mark Wright’s final start before the All-Star break, and he’ll try to turn things around after allowing seven earned runs combined over his last two starts.

Brock Holt will take a seat in favor of Bryce Brentz, who gets the start in left field and will bat seventh. The rest of Boston’s lineup remains unchanged from Tuesday night’s 7-2 loss.
